Need A Road Trip Idea?
Several folks have asked us how we find the cool places that we road trip to. The Roadmaster's wheels are always turning and he is constantly researching maps and roads. Here are some good resource websites for planning road trips: Our favorite site of course is retroroadmap.com. Mod Betty is constantly documenting retro diners, 5 & 10's, old movie theaters, bowling alleys, and mom and pop businesses (a step back in time) that have been around for years and are still in business. We have gotten a lot of our road tripping inspiration from her site. Another great resource is atlasobscura.com. A third good resource is roadsideamerica.com. Another good idea is to get on googlemaps.com and explore old towns using street view. You will be surprised what you can find find in small town America. Any of these are great resources for planning a road trip. Last but certainly not least, just choose an old US highway and drive it!
You will be surprised at the things you can find when you get out and explore. Road tripping has sort of become a weekend hobby for us in the past few years. We love history and old historic places. We love old bridges, old hotels (especially the haunted ones!), old diners and restaurants, quaint old towns, road side attractions and pretty much anything nostalgic. Happy road tripping!
